"I made the 5-hour drive up to Caprock Canyons this weekend after the area received 13" of snow. Unfortunately, I waited a day too long and ended up catching only small patches of white, and copious amounts of slippery red mud. The gear was -- as you can imagine -- thrashed.

Totally worth it.

Great trails, amazing weather, and a fantastic Texas classic. Given that this was on such short notice, I hadn't planned on having any moonlight to work with. But at 35% full under crisp panhandle skies, it was just right. Bright enough to light your foreground, but not so bright that your stars are blown out.

Better still, as usual, there wasn't a soul around. Other than a few hikers on Saturday, the park was completely empty. Another reason to love winter camping."

North of the Sun

“It was 10pm when I took this photo of our campspot for the night. The amount of sun makes it seem like mid-day, but that’s normal when you’re camping ‘North of the Sun’.”

Desert Showers

The Slot Canyon at Anza-Borrego State Park was an optimal campspot for viewing the Perseids Meteor shower.

Milky Way at Crater Lake

Shane took this time-lapse as the Milky Way made a full appearance over his camp spot above Crater Lake.
